Here's a detailed analysis of each training level:
🧒 Junior Group
🕘 Sunday 10:00 – 10:55
This group is designed for children aged 5 to 7 who are new to chess and have not yet understood the basic moves. These children typically:
- Do not fully grasp how each piece moves,
- Have not yet understood castling, pawn promotion, or the "en passant" rule.
Children who attended this group last year but have not yet completed all the exercises in their workbook (Stepping Stones / Petits Pas 1) still fit well in this group.
Older children who need a refresher on the basics are also welcome.
♟️ Beginner Group
🕑 Saturday 14:00 – 14:55
🕚 Sunday 11:00 – 11:55
Both sessions are for children aged 7 and older, or for younger children who have completed all the exercises in their Stepping Stones / Petits Pas 1 workbook.
Students in this group:
- Know all the piece movements,
- Are being gradually introduced to competitive chess,
- Are generally ready to participate in school tournaments.
Note: Last season, the Sunday group was slightly stronger than the Saturday group due to the presence of older children.
♟️ Intermediate Group
🕒 Saturday 15:00 – 15:55
This group consists of children who:
- Have a good understanding of the game,
- Actively participate in tournaments,
- Are focused on improving their competitive play.
The level is above beginner, with an emphasis on deepening strategic and tactical thinking.
🧠 Advanced Group
🕓 Saturday 16:00 – 17:25
🕓 Friday 18:20 – 19:45 (includes adults)
The only 90-minute training session, this group includes children with several years of chess experience, most of whom are over 12 years old, though talented younger players are also accepted.
This longer session allows for:
- In-depth analysis of advanced strategies,
- Intensive practice and preparation for tournaments.
New this year:
A second Advanced Group will be introduced on Friday evenings, to better accommodate students who wish to participate in weekend tournaments.
Chess For All: Friday 18:20-20:30
